Welcome!
The Africa Network at The Ohio State University is sponsored by the Colleges of the Arts and Sciences in partnership with the Office of International Affairs and the Center for African Studies.
In 2005, a working conference brought together a group of people who have various interests in research, teaching (including study abroad, internships, and service learning activities), and outreach in either South Africa or southern Africa generally. Sharing information, thinking about how our interests intersect, and thinking about how we might maximize our ability to make a positive difference led to the formation of this network.
From this modest beginning, the Africa Network has now grown to encompass people throughout the university—with some beyond its boundaries—who have interests, programs, and projects, not just in Southern Africa, but across the entire continent. The primary function of the Africa Network is to share information. Hence, the creation of this web site—which we hope will prove to be an invaluable resource both on the campus and beyond. Through this more easily accessible mechanism, we hope to encourage intellectual connections as well as opportunities for action.
Here you will find profiles of the members of the Africa Network, as well as the projects in which they are involved; events—both past and upcoming; news items of Africa Network to network members; and links to related web sites.
For further information, to request to join the Africa Network, or to submit comments or suggestions, please contact Mindy Wright.
